His dictatorial
Friday Night move reminds us of Nixon’s Saturday Night Massacre in June of 1972
when Pres. Nixon told his Attorney General to fire the Special Prosecutor
investigating the Watergate Case. AG Elliot Richardson refused to do so and
resigned, as did Deputy AG William Ruckelshaus. Solicitor General Robert Bork,
subsequently complied with Nixon’s request and fired Archibald Cox. Less than a
half hour later, the White House sent FBI agents to close off the offices of the Special Prosecutor, Attorney General, and
Deputy Attorney General.
Trump unleashed a similar strike on a
much larger scale Friday night canning those responsible for ensuring Ethics,
Legality, and Moral Conduct are practiced at key government agencies. He can
now replace such important Inspectors General with his own handpicked MAGA-Loyalists.
There is however a catch, the Law. Title 5, Section 403(b), of the U.S. Code,
Is the federal law requiring a 30-day notification to
Congress before any watchdogs can be removed.
It is by now, well-established that
Trump never let the Law apply to him too much. And he’s been ably assisted by a
mostly hand-picked sympathetic Supreme Court. We all Need to pay close attention
to see how this all plays out. If Trump Is somehow able to pull off this latest
stunt, it shall be seen as an outright Power-Grab
for Complete Control of the Government.
Richard Nixon resigned the presidency
facing impeachment. Donald Trump has been President for 6 Days.
