Trump Where To Begin? **
Trump
today, Doubled, and eventually Tripled Down on his asinine Canada as a 51st
State Idea. He wrote today on his Truth Social website:
“The
only thing that makes sense is for Canada to become our cherished Fifty First
State,” Mr. Trump wrote on social media. “This would make all Tariffs, and
everything else, totally disappear. Canadians' taxes will be very substantially
reduced, they will be more secure, militarily and otherwise, than ever before,
there would no longer be a Northern Border problem.” “The artificial line of
separation drawn many years ago will finally disappear.’’ NYT Matina Stevis-Gridneff
Trump
wrote the missive as a possible solution to the Trump-initiated U.S. – Canada Tariff
Crises.
When confronted with the reality that Tariffs actually are, Really, a Tax on Consumers purchasing Imported Goods, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavit responded with some Trumpian word-salad about how for the first time in ‘Decades’, Americans will finally experience Fair Trade, which will somehow mysteriously evolve into a Tax Cut.
She then added that she was Sorry for giving AP a question during the
Press Conference, and that she was
insulted having her knowledge [?], of Economics questioned. This young
woman so very obviously has No Experience or Working Knowledge of Economics.
What
Else?
Oh, Trump’s Henchman, Musk, had the embattled USAID agency in a complete free-for-all today when Executives directed Staff to ‘Shred and Burn’ all Agency Classified Documents.
“Shred
as many documents first, and reserve the burn bags for when the shredder
becomes unavailable or needs a break,” says the memo, a copy of which was seen
by Bloomberg News. It was signed by
USAID Acting Executive Secretary Erica Carr.
Agency Line Staff, uncertain about the Legality
of such instructions, hesitated, while Supervisors checked-around on the
implications of such action.
Sure
Enough, The Federal Records Act of 1950 requires federal agencies to preserve
records, and there are strict guidelines about the destruction of documents.
The American Foreign Service Association, a group that represents State Department and USAID employees, then filed an emergency request for a court order forcing the government “to preserve all documents with any possible relevance to pending litigation.” (Bloomberg)
In an
emergency motion, lawyers for the AFSA argued that destroying classified files
and personnel records could prevent USAID from resuming normal operations and
make it impossible to “recreate and rebuild agency programming” in the future.
As the
emergency request became publicly known, Democratic staff on the US Senate
Foreign Relations Committee have also reached out to the State Department
and USAID for details on compliance with federal record keeping,
Also
Staff at the National Records Office (NARA) made inquiry and directed USAID to
cease any destruction of Official Government Records, Vaughn Hilliard/MSNBC Reported.
As If –
As if
this wasn’t enough for one day, amid the deconstruction in progress at the Department
of Education,
NPR Reports, Employees of the
U.S. Department of Education received an email on Tuesday advising them to
vacate all department offices by 6 p.m. Staff members were instructed by the
department's Office of Security, Facilities and Logistics to plan to work from
home on Wednesday.
The
e-mail cited Unspecified and Unknown ‘Security Concerns'. Trump/Musk have said
repeatedly they intend to close the Department, after Trump appointed Ex-pro
Wrestling VP Linda McMahon to preside over the shuttering of the agency.
